Children all over the world are living in poverty and suffering from preventable disease and starvation due to natural and man-made disasters. In Nepal, the situation is dire. Nearly 1 million children, or about 3.6% of the nation’s population, are orphaned from violence, landslides, floods, or poverty. According to the World Bank almost 40% under the age of 5 are malnourished.
The Destitute and Orphan Children Safeguarding Foundation Nepal (DOCS Foundation Nepal) was founded in 2002 to provide shelter, healthcare, and educational support to as many of these children as possible living in the remote and hilly regions, where living conditions are extremely harsh. The mission of the organization is to be a lifeline for these children in the hope that they might create a very different future for Nepal for subsequent generations of children.
We began in Shindhupalchok district, a place well-known for child-abuse and human trafficking of young girls, and over the years we expanded our efforts, rescuing children from diverse circumstances throughout the region. Currently, we have two orphanages one is located in Lalitpur District and another branch in Makwanpur, Hetauda that care for 131 children of varying ages, including many infants, a few disabled children, and one deaf child. In addition, we sponsor another 25 children across Nepal and the number can increase in the years to come.
We were founded and rely solely on the generous support of our contributors from around the world to operate and offer our services. We receive no money from the government of Nepal at this time.
